WushuOntario Profile:
WushuOntario was initially established in April 1997 as the "United Wushu Association of Ontario" and serves as the Provincial governing body in promoting the sport of wushu in Canada. Since then, WushuOntario has grown to encompass a wide array of wushu (martial art) related programming, community events, and participant support initiatives.

Since its' inception, WushuOntario has hosted the 10th World Wushu Championships, held 2 Pan American Championships, multiple National Championships, has sent Ontario athletes to eight World Wushu Championships, 2 Junior World Championships, and various other festivals and competitions.

Statistics - Wushu is recognized under the IOC and the IWuF under the definition of a combative sport; - WushuOntario is a collective of member clubs that span across the province of Ontario;

- Over 2,000 individual members of which 95% is enrolled in a recognized recreational program;

- 88 competitive athletes across Ontario; - 56 registered certified coaches;

- 75% male, 25% female;

- Age breakdown of Wushu Athletes: < 6: 5% 7-12: 20% 13-15: 20% 16-18: 10% 18-35: 25% >35: 20%

Taolu (Routines): Competitive Taolu, Traditional Kung-Fu, Traditional Tai Chi

Sanda (Combative): Various Weight, Age and Class Categories

Combative (Other): Tai Chi Push Hands, Wing Chun Chi Sao, Chinese Wrestling

Wushu is a multi-discipline sport based on the two components of Taolu and Sanda. Taolu is the non-combative routine based sport and Sanda is the combative application based sport. Wushu in Canada is governed by WushuCanada, which is a federation of Provincial/Territorial members composed of local clubs and individual and organizational members.
