| I am a Sanda athlete who wants to compete. What do I need? | Click Link Besides Article to View |
| Sanda (Combat) | Q. What Membership Status do I need? A. All individual members of WushuOntario are eligible to participate in events at a recreational level. However for high performance events and contact sanda, you require a Level II Individual membership. Q. What forms do I need for Sanda competition? A. You require 3 Forms for competition: 1. WOS1 Sanda Athlete Medical Health Form (Completed by your physician); 2. WOS2 Sanda Competition Club Participation Form (Completed by your member Club if applicable); 3. WOS3 Sanda Competition Event Participation Waiver (Your individual registration form) 4. WO4 Member Biography Submission Form (Completed and updated by athlete) Q. How often do I need to get a medical check for contact sanda? A. A WOS1 Sanda Athlete Medical Health Form is required prior to participating in any contact sanda event. This is not required in light contact sanda sparring. You must ensure that the checkup has been conducted within 12 months of any event and that no changes have occurred in your medical health since the last check up. Q. What do I need in the medical check? A. The medical check for ALL athletes requires your physician (doctor) to complete the WOS1 Sanda Athlete Medical Health Form and as well documentation of your (ECG) Electrocardiography test which reveals useful information about the condition of your heart and blood test. Q. How often do I need to get a medical check? A. A medical checkup should be done prior to each competition season and is required if there has been any changes to your physical condition. E.g. car accident, knock out, injury, dizziness, etc. Each WOS1 Sanda Athlete Medical Health Form is valid for 12 months. Athletes must ensure that they are up to date. ECG and blood test results taken within 12 months of the season start are valid for the entire season as long as there are no changes to your physical condition and that they are approved by your physician in the WOS1 form. Q. What if my last check was less than a year ago right now, but will be more than 12 months by mid season? A. As an athlete of WushuOntario we require a check up that is dated no longer than 12 months, therefore if your check up expires mid season, you will need to arrange a new check up by that time. We recommend you pre-plan your checkups prior to the start of each season so that it is valid for the entire year. Q. What equipment do I need for competition? A. Sanda competition equipment is standard and mandatory for all events. Most protective equipment is provided by WushuOntario such as gloves, chest gear, head gear and leg gear. As an athlete you need to ensure that you have the following: 1. Mouth guard 2. Groin protector for males 3. Hand wraps are mandatory for all athletes and must be recognized boxing hand wraps made of a cloth material; the wraps must NOT be a tape or adhesive in nature. 4. Proper competition attire: BOTH a red and black uniform set that consists of shorts and a t-shirt or tank top with NO logos or bigger than 4 inches high and 4 inches wide. The logos on the apparel may consist only of either the "club" logo or name, or the manufacturer of the apparel, it may NOT be a photo or large design. The apparel may NOT have loose strings or buckles attached that may cause potential injury to competing athletes. * Full discretion to all equipment standards remain at the judgment of the Chief Official for each event, if you are unsure of anything, please contact us and ask !Q. What if I don't have a registered WushuOntario member club that I am a part of? A. You may register as an independent member to participate in WushuOntario sanctioned bouts. If you are a member of a club that is not a recognized member club of WushuOntario, your member club is not eligible to recognize your achievements or participation in WushuOntario activities. If an athletes results, achievements and participation is promoted by a non-registered club, the independent athletes results and achievements will be nulled and removed from WushuOntario rankings. In order for clubs to recognize their individual members, they must become a club member of WushuOntario. Q. How much does it cost to compete? A. Costs associated with competition will vary from event to event. Q. Do I have to live in Ontario to compete in WushuOntario Events? A. The only events limited to Ontario athletes are the Provincial championships which consist of the top athletes from each weight category. All other events are open to all competitors as long as they are members of WushuCanada through their respective provincial sports organization (PSO) or become members by paying the non-member price.
